CAWIC is deeply saddened by the fatal attack that took the life of 20-year-old welder Amber Czech in the U.S. last week. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Amber’s family and loved ones, colleagues, and community.
Although this tragedy occurred outside Canada, its implications resonate deeply within our own industry in Canada and around the world. Women in the skilled trades continue to face harassment, hostility, and unsafe work environments. Amber’s death is a heartbreaking reminder of the work that still must be done.
CAWIC stands with the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) and with workers and advocates demanding safer workplaces. We join them in calling for immediate action to prevent violence and protect women in the workplace. Every worker deserves to return home at the end of each day. We need to ensure that women in construction are safe, supported, and protected.
To support Amber’s family during this difficult time, a GoFundMe campaign has been organized. For more information, please visit: Fundraiser for Angie and Pete Czech by Shawn Labat : Amber Czech Memorial.
