Powell Contracting – Controller

Powell Contracting, a division of RSG International, was established in 1967. With over 50 years’ experience, we are the industry leader in providing Ontario with the supply and installation of temporary concrete barriers, noise barriers, crash cushions, guide rails, ground mount signs, overhead signs, and sign structures. Our integrated solutions and project delivery strategies improve project timelines and processes, generating increased capabilities for projects including outfitting highways, transit systems, airports, and municipal contracts.

 

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
  • Manage cash position of the business including daily cash reports, weekly cash forecasts and monthly borrowing base reporting and forecasts
  • Lead a team of approximately 5 employees, including hiring, professional development, performance assessment and other related human resource concerns
  • Review weekly payroll reports and monthly payroll remittances for accuracy. Ensure that all remittances are processed on time
  • Ensure that accounting processes and documentation meets corporate governance and audit standards, safeguarding of assets and reliability of financial statements and to detect fraud and errors
  • Foster positive relationships with both external and internal stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with government remittances including HST, corporate tax installments and payroll remittances
  • Prepare audit schedules and provide timely response to audit inquiries for internal and external audits

Project Accounting Specific Responsibilities

  • Maintain the job costing system, ensuring an optimal structure that supports both financial and operational analysis and insight
  • Ensure accuracy of job transactions including allocations, cash disbursements, accruals, and revenue recognition practices
  • Develop and maintain monthly job analysis and reporting 

 

Qualifications

  • CPA (or equivalent) designation
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Project Accounting
  • Experience working in a multi-company environment an asset
