CAWIC Facts

CAWIC, a non-profit Canadian organization was incorporated on October 13, 2005. Its membership includes women employed in construction related fields in Canada. These women are dedicated to the success of women in the construction industry.

CAWIC’s history began in 1982 as the Toronto Chapter of NAWIC (National Association of Women in Construction). NAWIC was incorporated in 1953 and operates from its head office in Texas.

CAWIC continues to maintain its ties with NAWIC as an International Affiliate. In 2006 CAWIC signed affiliate agreements with NAWIC in the USA and Australia and is planning on further agreements with NAWIC in the UK, South Africa and New Zealand.

CAWIC holds educational seminars, fundraisers for scholarships, is involved with local communities, holds career days and works with organizations that support women in the construction industry. Its mandate is to encourage women to consider a career in construction.

CAWIC LEADERSHIP
The Association is governed by a Board of Directors elected annually from the membership. The board of directors meets monthly to conduct association business.

CAWIC PROGRAMS
The Association coordinates regular monthly meetings that include industry specific presentations, workshops and construction site tours.

CAWIC BURSARY PROGRAM
The Association awards bursaries to women who are currently enrolled in post secondary construction related fields of study. The bursaries are awarded annually.

CAWIC MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
The Mentorship Committee provides information and guidance to young women who are interested in construction related careers and to prospective and new members of CAWIC.
