Call for Female Participants

Get involved!  Have your say! Make a difference!

CAWIC conducted research with female participants and consulted with the construction industry, developing an action plan to increase the hiring, retention and advancement of women within the Canadian construction industry.

CAWIC recruited volunteer women from Ontario, Alberta and Newfoundland/Labrador to participate in our research, representing a diversity of participants across fields of study or work and level of career. We welcomed women entering/re-entering or transitioning into the construction industry workforce. We also welcomed women who are currently employed in the construction industry, but perceive, have experienced or are experiencing challenges to their personal career advancement.

What was involved?
Participants were asked to volunteer just a few hours each month to share personal experience, on a strictly confidential basis, success stories and challenges in the participants specific construction related sector. Participants provided valuable input into the project through in-person and telephone meetings, focus groups, surveys and other oral and/or written feedback. CAWIC accommodated participants' schedules as much as possible to facilitate participation.

The primary objective of the Project was to help women advance into leadership roles within the Canadian construction industry. The Action Plan participants helped to develop forms the basis of the formal report to the federal Ministry for Status of Women Canada and to the Canadian construction industry entitled the Level Best Women’s Advancement Project Industry Action Plan. This Industry Action Plan will be available to industry stakeholders across the country.

CAWIC undertook this Project with the generous support of Status of Women Canada, in kind donations from industry leaders as well as CAWIC's dedicated volunteers and industry partners.
